HOOPESTON — Noble Elton "Pop" Adams, 80, of 321 W. Penn, a longtime Hoopeston educator, died at 1 a.m. today (May 15, 1978) at Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital. He had been ill two weeks. An Indiana native, Mr. Adams came to Hoopeston in 1921 and taught at Hoopeston High. He later was principal at Maple Grade School in Hoopeston for 30 years. Prior to coming to Hoopeston, he taught in Rileysburg, Ind., and Perrysville, Ind. schools. Mr. Adams attended the University of Illinois, Winona College in Winona Lake, Ind., the teachers college in Terre Haute, Ind., and Perrysville, Ind. High. He was a member of the National Education Association, Vermilion County Museum Society, Hoopeston United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men. Born June 18, 1897, in Perrysville, he was a son of James and Emily Swem Adams. He married Ruth Coggins June 6, 1921. She died Nov. 21, 1943. He later married Maple Barragree on Sept. 2, 1945, in Logansport, Ind. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Myron Freeman of Williamsport, Ind.; a brother, Virgil Adams of Perrysville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Three brothers also preceded him in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton-Orr Funeral Home, with the Rev. John McFarland officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
